Alleged DUI driver crashes into Uber car causing personal injury

The holiday season in Southern California and across the nation can place people at risk for being victims of a drunk driving accident. This is especially true after people are returning home from various holiday events and celebrations. Drunk driving accidents can result in injuries and fatalities. In some cases, even if the victims were not driving, but instead were using public transportation or ride-sharing, they could still be injured or killed in a crash caused by a driver who was under the influence. People who are confronted with these problems should know what steps to take to pursue compensation in a personal injury lawsuit.

In one recent incident, a driver who was allegedly under the influence crashed into another vehicle and caused critical injuries to its occupants. He then attempted to flee the scene before being stopped by three people who were in the area.

The incident happened at 6:00 a.m. when a Mercedes SUV ran a stop sign and crashed into a Prius that was working as an Uber vehicle. The Uber vehicle subsequently crashed into a building. Six people suffered injuries, with four critically hurt and two seriously injured. They were three men and three women in their 20s and 30s. The driver of the Mercedes was arrested and charged with felony DUI. The investigation is ongoing.

There is a constant risk of injury or death when heading out on the road as a driver, passenger, bicyclist or pedestrian. With accidents, there are many different outcomes. For the luckiest, they are uninjured. Unfortunately, these outcomes are rare. People who have been involved in a car accident can suffer a variety of injuries, including head injuries, spinal cord injuries, lacerations, broken bones and worse. It can result in the need for hospitalization, surgical procedures and long-term treatment. People can miss time at work and have problems taking part in everyday family life. When there is a fatality, the family left behind will need to worry about how they are going to move forward. A legal filing is often the only way to receive adequate compensation.

Unfortunately, there will always be those who drive under the influence. When there is a DUI crash resulting in injuries, it is crucial that the people who were hurt and their families understand what their legal options are.
